Yes, Cursor has a free tier for individual developers. Here's exactly what you get for free, and what requires a paid plan.

What's Free in Cursor?

The free plan costs $0 and includes a limited monthly AI usage allowance together with full access to the editor. Cursor no longer advertises a fixed "fast requests" quota โ€” usage is drawn from a shared pool that refreshes on a weekly cycle, so a heavy day won't wipe out your whole month. That's enough for hobbyists, students, and anyone trying out AI coding for the first time.

When Do You Need to Pay?

Paid plans start at $8/month (Plus). The $30/month Pro tier adds 4x the usage allowance of Plus, cloud agents, code hosting, and AI code review. Above it sit Super at $100/month (15x usage) and Ultra at $200/month (50x usage), with Teams starting at $30 per user per month. Every tier draws from the same shared AI usage pool, which refreshes weekly โ€” once it runs out you can top up or wait for the refresh. Most professional developers upgrade once the free allowance stops covering daily work, but beginners can usually get by on the free tier.

Which AI Models Do You Get?

The AI usage pool is shared between Cursor and Grok. Plus ($8/month) includes Grok models only โ€” chat, voice, Imagine and build โ€” plus Grok API access. Pro ($30/month) and above include generous Grok usage, but they do not include an allowance for third-party models: those remain available inside Cursor and are billed at standard API rates based on actual usage, separate from your plan quota. Grok API calls are also billed separately and do not draw from the plan pool, and you can set a spending cap to control costs.
